Eastside Award for Young Person of the Year

In this case, nominations were sought for the young person (aged 25 and under) who merits special recognition in terms of their personal journey and/or their contribution to the East Belfast community.

The finalists for the Eastside Award for Young Person of the Year were:

  • Anna Bowden for her work with Charis Youth Club, Bloomfield Presbyterian Church and others
  • Frankie Shanks for his work with Connswater Community Greenway
  • Krizzah Policarpio for her work with Ashfield School's Film Club and Lunch Club as well as other local projects

The judges said that Krizzah was ambassadorial in style, bringing East Belfast to the rest of the world. She has overcome major early difficulties, including arriving in Northern Ireland at 10 years of age with no English. Her personal development in a few short years is outstanding and her contribution to school life is very impressive. She has displayed bravery and perseverance in overcoming adversity, whilst also raising awareness of minority groups and engendering positive behaviour and attitudes.
